climate-change-public-safety
Climate change is increasingly shaping the conditions that influence public health, community well-being, resilience, and–importantly–public safety. Extreme heat, disasters, environmental harms, infrastructure disruptions, population displacement, health emergencies, and growing social and governance vulnerabilities are creating new challenges for communities and the institutions that serve them.
The SIG on Climate Change and Public Safety brings together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and community leaders who want to advance knowledge, collaboration, and action in this emerging area. The SIG will explore how climate change influences public safety, public health, social vulnerability, and community stability. It will also identify integrated approaches that strengthen prevention, preparedness, mitigation, adaptation, resilience, response, recovery, equity, and justice.
