The LEPH2023 program continues the conference series focus on the many and diverse law enforcement and public health responses to vulnerable populations. An excellent starting point and overview will be provided in Umea University’s session ‘Police work with vulnerable people’ (Major session 1:3) in which presenters will address the complex challenges in dealing with people who are economically and socially vulnerable, those with drug dependency or mental health issues and young offenders. An individual presentation by Monique Michal Marks from South Africa is an example of one model for working with vulnerable people in her paper ‘Harm reduction as an entry point for reducing safety risks of vulnerable population groups’ (Session 2:5).
