Gary Balch

Gary Balch is General Counsel of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) which strives to strengthen and improve international co-operation between prosecutors and brings inspiration, networking, and education to more than 350,000 prosecutors in 177 countries and territories around the world.
Gary is a Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor in the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) of England and Wales and, before joining the IAP, was head of CPS Proceeds of Crime, a national team that handles all domestic and international restraint, receivership, confiscation and enforcement proceedings for the CPS. Prior to that, he was the UK Liaison Prosecutor to the United States, representing all UK prosecutors in criminal justice matters with a US nexus and with a particular focus on counter terrorism, cybercrime, organised crime and money laundering.
He has held a number of senior leadership and operational roles in his 26 years as a prosecutor and has represented UK prosecutors in a variety of international fora and strategic activity including the Global Forum on Asset Recovery (GFAR) in Washington DC; as the UK Judicial Contact Point and Steering Group Member of CARIN, and leading for UK prosecutors during the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) mutual evaluation of the UK.
