List of nominees for President:

  1. Richard Bent

I have been a member of GLEPHA since its inception, and was among a number of individuals who were involved in developing the initial concept of a global research association and saw it through to creation and incorporation. I have been President of the GLEPHA Board for the past 3 year, and previously was the first Vice-President of GLEPHA having served on the Board of Directors in that position since the inception of GLEPHA in early 2017. I have been directly involved in policy creation for GLEPHA, and have been on the Planning Committees of several LEPH conferences.

I served 35 years in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the last 7 of which were in executive positions. I have considerable leadership experience being responsible the operations and administration of police services delivery under contract to the Province of British Columbia, with stewardship of a substantial budget, and responsibility for human and materiel resources. I served on many boards with the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police and on a number of external boards, notably the Ending Violence Association of BC and the Association of Specialised Victim Assistance. While in policing I dealt with government ministers and senior levels of all levels of government, and, was responsible for approval of operational policies. I have been at Simon Fraser University for 16 years, first as a Senior Research Fellow with ICURS and currently as an Adjunct Professor in the School of Criminology. The focus of my research is very much aligned with the objectives of GLEPHA. I have an MA in Criminal Justice.

The three priorities for the GLEPHA Board are:
1. Membership – Not just growing the membership of GLEPHA to become financially self-sufficient, but building a more gender and geographically diverse membership base. Further, there should be specific focus on generating more members from low-middle income countries.
2. Building capacity – Developing strategic partnerships or alliances with academic institutions, government ministries, and LEPH practitioner organisations.
3. Fund raising – Expand the ability to grow GLEPHA by developing sustainable revenue sources which will enable GLEPHA to transition to being the lead for planning and organising the LEPH conferences, and to provide mediums to publish relevant research.
