Dr. Rhoda Wanyenze, MBChB, MPH, PhD, is a Professor and Dean of Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH). Rhoda has vast experience in public health research, capacity building and program management, especially in infectious diseases and sexual and reproductive health and rights. She has led several collaborative research and capacity building projects in partnership with universities in Uganda and other African countries.
Rhoda is active in public health policy and leadership and has served on various Boards and technical committees of the Uganda MoH and other agencies. Rhoda is currently an active member of GLEPHA and brings wide experience in governance and organisational development through her service on various boards, as Board Chair and member.
The top priorities for GLEPHA include expansion of networks in the global south (in Africa and Asia) and increasing membership of organisations and individuals in these regions, especially membership of public health professionals and institutions. GLEPHA should also advocate for and expand research and capacity building to enhance the collaboration between public health and law enforcement. The current COVID-19 Pandemic has demonstrated the need to enhance these linkages for effective public health and law enforcement response. The expansion and growth of these networks globally will require solid and supportive institutional mechanisms which should also be a priority.
